A while back I had the privilege of working with Kelly at Play on a pretty fun project. It’s a 90+ workbook that accompanied a presentation that Play gave to GE, titled “Think differently. Behave differently. Lead differently.”
As stoked as I am with the way our book came out, I’m just as proud of how quickly we got it all done. The time from my first meeting with Play to delivery of the printed books was less than 2 weeks.
Play is an awesome company with some of the coolest folks. They treated me like I’d been working there for years and I can’t thank them enough. Also, I want give props to Easley Johnson and James River Press for being super accommodating and delivering a great print job.

I was recently contacted by Bill over at Inform Magazine asking if I’d contribute to the Design Dialogue feature where local designers weigh in on a series of questions related to their craft. This particular Design Dialogue focused mostly on web design.

Along with Copeland Casati, we offered insight on making information relevant to both intended and unintended audiences, what the relationship between data points and information means to a site’s design, and more. Pick up a copy, or maybe back order one. This post is pretty overdue, so there’s probably a new issue out. My bad.

I recently wrapped up a project with the good dudes at PharrOut to redesign the web site of local politician Chris Peace.
It was probably one of the easiest and smoothest site designs I’ve done, and everybody seems stoked with the way it turned out, including me.

The 903 Logo has been included in a couple of blog posts lately that focus on how logo designers brand themselves.
I really think that designing for yourself is one of the toughest things any serious designer can do, and there’s obviously added pressure when working on your own brand. So I always find it interesting to see how other designers solve this creative problem.
Check out this post over at Creative Opera, and this post over at Graham Smith’s I’m Just Creative blog. Actually, be sure to check out Graham’s ongoing series on the subject, and even submit your own logo for his next installment.

As I approached the back door to our Richmond home this morning after driving back from a weekend in South Hill, I was already annoyed with myself for leaving my cell phone in the city all weekend. I was about to find out that my phone was the least of my problems.
As I went to unlock the door, this is what I should have looked down to see:

I have an uber-convenient detachable section to my keychain that simply includes my house key and my Gold’s Gym keychain card. It’s great way to take only what I need to the gym. Instead, this is the sight that greeted my astonished eyes:

Yep, that uber-convenient detachable keychain turns out to be super inconvenient when you leave your hous key locked in your house next to your cell phone after you wife has already been dropped off at work and you know that if you turn around and drive back to the Federal Reserve you’ll have to park in an unregistered visitor’s spot, then hope to get in as an unregistered visitor, then hope that your wife is avaiable and not in a meeting since you can’t check because her new Blackberry number is in your phonebook which is locked inside your house next to your house key!
So, I did what any adventurous guy would do and broke into my own house. It wasn’t easy, and I’ll make sure it can’t be done again. But just in case you’re curious, here’s a break-in plan that you can try, if you really want (it worked for me):

I hate Mondays.

I was working at Play last week when somebody there mentioned that I looked like Josh Groban. I didn’t think much of it at the time and it wasn’t until a couple of days later that I realized that I didn’t know what Josh Groban looked like. For my sake, I hoped he was a good lookin’ cat, so I voiced my curiosity while working alongside Kelly & Menna.
There was a bit of a silence, so I assumed he wasn’t going to give Robert Pattinson a run for his money any time soon. But as I watched them study their laptop screens, they assured me I didn’t really look too much like Mr. Groban. Then Meena’s eyes widened and she said the Closer album cover was a different story. Amanda and I just had a wonderful 10 day trip to Buenos Aires and Iguazu. Sorry that it took me so long to put this together, but at long last, here’s a ridiculously in-depth rundown of our travels. And if words aren’t your thing (and even if they are) be sure to check out our Buenos Aires Flickr Set and our Buenos Aires Video.
Much much more after the jump. Continue Reading The Big Crazy Buenos Aires Recap!

So here it is, the new 903 Blog. There really isn’t anything that great about it, and I’ve never really felt like I have anything of value to say. But for some reason, I really like blogging.

I’ve been a fan of iPodRip for a while, but I’m an even bigger fan of their current promotion: iPodRip’s Billion-Songs-Transferred Giveaway!
It’s a pretty sweet little giveaway, and there’s no reason that you shouldn’t enter in one of the few ways that they’re accepting entries. Check it out and take a stab at winning some [...]
